I am in the process of packing up the Temple Library since we are undergoing major construction. When the new space is ready the library will be a part of a larger Library/Media/Welcome center open for use whenever the Temple is open. (This idea of course brings up a lot of security issues for which I would love suggestions).
In packing the reference collection I have found that they have three encyclopedias in addition to several one-volume books with the word encyclopedia in the title: Encyclopedia Judaica The Jewish Encyclopedia The Universal Jewish Encyclopedia The only one I have ever seen anyone use is the EJ. Is there really any good reason to keep the other two in the collection? Do they still have value in a small synagogue library? Does anyone have a list of suggested guidelines for weeding a collection made up of a lot of donated books (condition and subject matter are not issues)? Can someone also share a written donation policy that they use to avoid the leaving of random books on the library desk? I would love to have it in place for the new space. Thanks for all of your help.
