KATCHEN SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The Association of Jewish Libraries is pleased to announce a monetary award
to an individual active in the field of cataloging or technical services or
to a student enrolled in a graduate school of library and information
science, to further their knowledge of Hebraica/Judaica cataloging and/or
enable them to participate in and contribute Hebraica records to national
cooperative cataloging programs.
ELIGIBILITY
1a. Proof of current enrollment in:
* An ALA accredited library school in the United States or
Canada or
* An accredited library school in either the United Kingdom, Australia,
or New Zealand or
* The graduate library school program at either Hebrew University or
Bar Ilan University
OR
1b. Documentation showing active employment in the field of cataloging
or technical services
2. Strong knowledge of Hebrew language
3. Jewish studies completed at an academic or less formal level
INDIVIDUALS WHO WISH TO APPLY FOR THIS AWARD SHOULD SUBMIT TO THE KATCHEN
AWARD CHAIR BY
APRIL 1
1. Completed application form online, via email to the Katchen Award
chair, available on the AJL website at

2. Documentation of current enrollment in one of the qualified
graduate library school programs mentioned above OR of active employment in
the field of cataloging or technical services. Transcripts and/or letters
on official letterhead, submitted via regular surface mail, will be
accepted as documentation.
3. Documentation of Jewish studies completed at an academic or less
formal level Transcripts and/or letters on official letterhead, submitted
via regular surface mail, will be accepted as documentation.
4. Personal statement as a Word or rtf document, via email to the
Katchen Award chair.
Please submit a short statement (200/300 words) indicating the nature of
the course, workshop, or project you would like to be funded. Relate how
you feel your involvement in such activities might contribute to advancing
the field of Judaica/Hebraica cataloging.
