I'd forgotten about Toronto Public Library's "Summer Sandbox", even though I joined it and had grabbed one of the specially-made bookmarks about it. In my own defence, the bookmmark is stuck in a book at the bottom of my growing "reading pile" and I haven't actually participated since I created a Sandbox account (but it's on my to-do list). I don't recall if any of the books on the list were ones that would qualify as "Jewish" and I can't access the site at the moment. The main website for the Sandbox book discussion groups is http://summersandbox.communityzero.com. I'm assuming that the site will still be up and running, even though we're way past summer weather. As someone fascinated at the various ways that the Internet can be used to connect people to information - and to each other - I find the idea of online discussions of books compelling. As a Judaica librarian, I am equally thrilled at the prospect of people being (potentially) able to transcend the limits of time and space (i.e. the discussion can go on continuously over a 24-hr period and people can access the discussions without having to physically meet) to share thoughts about the Jewish literature that we read. ***** Another "general" site to consider at Yahoo Groups is Book Discussion Place : http://groups.yahoo.com/group/book_discussion_place/ This is a new group : only 2 members (my own membership is pending) and only 4 messages posted in Nov. (which I can't read yet). There were over 1,000 groups in the results when I did a Yahoo Groups search using the terms "book" and "disucssion". When I narrowed the search by adding the word "Jewish", the only meaningful results (aside from jewishcomics already mentioned by you) was : Chochmat HaLev women's reading group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CHL-WRG/ ***** Also, of possible interest, is the Jewish Science Fiction List - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jewishsf/ ***** Usenet has a newsgroup called rec.arts.books.reviews. Its messages are archived at http://groups.google.com and it's possible to do an advanced search (e.g. looking for any messages posted to that groups using specific keywords - Jew, Jews, Jewish, Israel, etc.).
