on a lighter note, here's a confession and some facts and trivia.
1) It was my idea, long ago, to hold a convention on a college campus.
2) Beatrice Muscat and I went to Brandeis University to "check it out".
We came back with a strong, positive recommendation. A great support
group in Boston, 2 Kosher cafeterias, a beautiful setting, a welcoming
administration.
3) When our members arrived, accoutrements not nailed down or soldered
to beams had all been removed. Missing were shower curtains, mats,
lamps, phones, etc. etc.
3) all the bedrooms assigned had a connecting bathroom, that is 2 rooms
with 1 bathroom. Again, only overhead lighting.
4) Waltham is not Boston. Our time there proved to be too much
togetherness combined with feelings of isolation. (One night a group of
us hired cabs for an evening OUT in Boston. Phil Miller will remember.)
5) Of course the programs were great, the committee got an "A" for
effort, and I was not run out of town.
6) I happily attended AJL conventions over a 20 year period.
On a serious note, I suggest community fundraising to cover some of our
costs.
Special greetings to those who remember Brandeis, and to all on this
wonderful list, shalom.
