I have read "The book thief" and purchased it for our high school. I have given it to our more mature readers. I think the main drawback for students will be the length. I loved it, don't think I would describe it as Harry Potter meets the Holocaust. While the writing and content are highly original and creative, it is not fantasy in the Harry Potter sense.
