Original Cataloger
The Library of the Jewish Theological Seminary seeks an experienced librarian to serve as Original Cataloger on a funded cataloging project for eight months. This position reports to the Administrative Librarian for Technical Services. Duties and responsibilities: This is a full-time position working in the Technical Services Department of the Library. Responsibilities include original cataloging and classification of monographs primarily in Hebrew, including rare-books, as well as books in Latin characters. Supervision of one copy cataloger and two para-professionals for cataloging project. Cataloging will be performed in OCLC and in ExLibris ALEPH500. Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS is required; second advanced degree in related subject area desired. Proficiency in AACR2r, LCSH, MARC and OCLC Connexion; experience with ExLibris ALEPH500 preferred. Knowledge of Hebrew; working knowledge of Yiddish and other European languages desired. Supervisory experience, the ability to communicate orally and in writing, and to work effectively with staff is required.
