This is the first year, so have only done a few books: I am David by Anne Holm (girls hated the book, boys thought was OK, but all had a LOT to say about it), Last Shot by John Feinstein (boys and girls loved), Uglies by Scott Westerfeld (only girls read and all loved it, and had a lot to talk about), Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings (haven't had discussion yet but both boys and girls are telling me they loved it...and there is a lot to talk about with this one!). Others that I have booktalked (I book talk and they vote) that have rated high are Surviving Antarctica (we're going to read this next...good cold weather book!), Iqbal, and Double Identity. I do plan to booktalk Jewish-theme books, Confessions of a Closet Catholic (girls), Daniel Half human and the good nazi, King of Mulberry Street, but not all yet out in paperback. I'm looking for books with good moral conflicts to discuss, they may be Jewish or not,
Hope this helps! Maureen Maureen Reister Director of Libraries Ann & Nate Levine Academy 18011 Hillcrest Rd.
