Responses to my request for recent books about Israel for Children: From Susan Dubin: Kar Ben has a couple of new ones this year.
From Linda Silver, Janice Levine, and Susan Dubin: Check the Jewish Valuesfinder, www.ajljewishvalues.org. It's your best source for current children's books about Israel. From Deborah P. Clayman (writing for children as Deborah da Costa): Try my picture book SNOW IN JERUSALEM--just reprinted in paperback. It is for ages 5-10, takes place in the Old City, has lovely watercolor illustrations based on photographs. (My publisher gave the manuscript to a reserve army officer who photographed everything I mentioned in the text--which the illustrators used to do the pictures.) If you check Anna Olswanger"s Host-a-Jewish-Book-Author.com, you can probably find more great books for kids. From Carol Fabnger Bell: My collection was also out of date. I worked with SayFair Books, and found many excellent titles. You can go to their web site, www.sayfair.com, and check out their collection. Jane and Kathy will be happy to help you. I think that they give a 30% discount, but you pay shipping charges. Feel free to say that I recommended them. I just ran a book fair with them, and it worked out really well. From Joni Sussman: Kar-Ben has just published 3 brand new Israel-related books in addition to others we already have. They are: "It's Israel's Birthday" for the little ones, and "The Bat-Chen Diaries," and "Keeping Israel Safe" for the older kids. Here's the link to all our Israel books for children, including a couple of geography-related titles: http://www.karben.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=17&zenid=b2edbbd88253ab2bd9d44d7bf9f743c0 From Sylvia Rouss: Sammy Spiders First Trip to Israel, 2002 Sammy Spiders Israel Fun Book, 2004 Talis Jerusalem Scrapbook, 2003 Reach for the Stars, a Little Torahs Journey, 2004 From Susan Berson: I recommend these three books, published in 2006 by Milk and Honey Press (www.milkandhoneypress.com): Sheri, Shira.
