There is currently an opening on the Sydney Taylor Manuscript Committee. The
Committee reviews unpublished manuscripts of Jewish interest literary fiction
for ages 8-11 using a standard set of criteria. The winning manuscript (there
is not always a winning manuscript) receives a cash prize. In the last few
years several of the
manuscripts have been published by both small presses and large publishing
houses.

The committee consists of 5 members plus a chairperson. The judging takes
place in early winter after the December 15 deadline. For more details about
the award visit the AJL website.

The committee membership represents AJL's diverse geographical, philosophical,
and professional diversity.

Committee responsibilities include critical reading of the manuscripts,
completing an evaluation sheet, writing a reasoned review of the manuscript and
participating in email discussions to select a winning manuscript. Adhering to
the Committee's time-frame is essential to the selection process.

Current members of another award committee and those who have served on
an award committee recently are not eligible.

If you are interested in serving on this committee(a five year term), please
send me a resume and review samples.

Please reply off-list by June 1 so that the selection may be made in time for
the Cleveland convention.

Aileen Grossberg
Chair
Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award Committee
