I would like to chime in here and say that I don't mind the death
notices, birth announcements, event publicity, or political
discussions on this list at all. I agree with all of those who have
said that we need these sorts of seemingly extraneous information
because we are a community. I'm not a librarian, but I feel part of
your community because I work with books and because I am Jewish. I
belong to many professional organizations and attend many
conferences, and it matters to me that this particular group is a
Jewish one because too often I feel alone or even isolated in my
Jewishness at these professional events. To me, the birth
announcements, etc., are what make this list Jewish, or if you don't
want to go quite that far, they are what makes this list a Jewish community.

To those complaining about the number of posts, I receive the posts
in digest form. That means I get one message from HaSafran a
day. It does not take me long to scroll through the one, long email
and read what I want and skip over what doesn't interest me. I don't
even have to delete anything as I scroll. It's very easy and pretty
speedy. I highly recommend this method of delivery to those of you
who feel inundated.

Thank you for letting me be part of your Jewish community.
