Several years ago I posted a message to this group to ask if any
librarian knew of a historian who could look at genealogical records
from Lithuania and comment on the records in light of Jewish history.
I was looking for more than just a translation—a way to place an
individual in his or her country's history. My question as a
non-historian was, "What does this record mean about the individual's
life?" I had the facts from the translation, but not the interpretation.

Someone in this group was able to put me in touch with a graduate
student in Jerusalem who was fluent in Russian and an expert at
interpreting documents from the Lithuanian archives from a historical
point of view.

That student has now gone on to other things, so I would like to ask
again if any of you might know of a historian, perhaps a graduate
student, who could do the kind of interpretation I'm looking for.
This person would have to be fluent in Russian and knowledgeable
about Jewish life in Lithuania in the eighteenth and nineteenth century.

Thank you if you can recommend someone.

Sincerely,

Anna Olswanger
