An introduction and as request for help:

After a long career in special librarianship, I began serving as the
librarian (permanent part-time) at the Academy for Jewish Religion in
Riverdale, New York in September 2011. I just joined the AJL, just in
time actually to ask a question that has me stumped. It's not a new
question.

We have had many donations over the years that's resulted in a
collection of more than 700 books we don't need. Many came from the
private collections of rabbis who are retiring, so there were a lot of
duplicates. We've already held a book sale for the students, faculty
and alumni and these are the books that didn't sell.

They are now packed in about 20 large cartons, some of which are by
general topic (Israel, American Jewish life, etc.) the rest in cartons
with miscellaneous contents.

Does anyone know of a specific place that would take these without a
detailed list of contents? I know about the Strand book store in
Manhattan, but they are picky about what they want and are unlikely to
take all the cartons. I suspect there are "jobbers" that do take such
collections.

Management here has asked me to figure out what to do with them,
especially since we will be moving to a different building in six
months. I'm not sure where else to turn for advice. I hope this is not
an inappropriate question for this list.
