In 2002, when the Jewish Children's Book Writers' Conference needed a
new home, Steve Siegel stepped forward and offered the resources of
the library of the 92nd Street Y. He served as the director of the
conference for the six years I served as the conference coordinator,
and no detail was too small for him to attend to. I believe that one
reason the conference flourished was because of Steve.
I remember one night when he called me from the opera to discuss plans
for the conference, and I thought that was the perfect place for him
to be. He had both intelligence and taste. And I will never forget how
he enjoyed rearranging the food throughout the day of the conference
so that the table remained inviting. He did everything well.
I hope that AJL will consider creating a fund in his honor.
