Hello Debbie:
it's actually better to go and get an international (multiregion)
standalone DVD player if you know you'll be playing region 2 items!
Computers are set up so that you only have a (very) limited of number of
times when it'll allow you to change DVD region from 1 to 2 and back (or to
other regions). I learned this the hard way -- there is no way to override
this built-in limitation.
And other major film-making countries use region 2 format, including the
UK, France, and Germany.
