I think it's quite expensive to put in a sink.In the "old days" they were actually used for professional tasks, for book repair, etc.So it was a justified expense. Today I'd say it's a luxury-- I step out in the hall to get my drink of water, or go to the staff room in the office complex area to use a microwave or make tea. If these conveniences--microwave, water fountain--are not in proximity in the building, then I'd say, yes, ask for a sink, but understand that it is a lot of extra work and money, and don't take offense if your request is vetoed on budgetary grounds.AR --- On Mon, 4/2/12, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote:

I was hired in after. We do not have a sink and I would have advocated to have one. We have a small refridgerator and a microwave. I have to go across the hall to the restroom in order to get water or I walk to the executive offices which is not in close proximity to the library (they have a larger sink to wash serving pieces). I would definitely suggest putting a sink in if you have the choice. We can start by putting that presentation on the Wiki (if possible with her permission from the proceedings). I love the idea of a downloadable podcast. In my previous reply I forgot to mention the work-room with a sink, safe exists, computer connection, space for copier and public catalog. It is also a good idea for a presentation at the Texas convention. I wonder if it couldn't be funded under a grant. Further, I wonder if it couldn't be a graduate thesis or project. Perhaps it could be a segment of the AJL website with a downloadable podcast. Lots of way to go, but first is there interest? Emily On Tue, Mar 27, 2012 at 2:38 PM, Toby Harris <[email protected]> wrote: I love the idea! There are two articles about distinctive library collections. It occurs to me how little most Jewish library users know about the existence of special collections. Would it be feasible to develop a documentary DVD which highlighted these collections? Synagogues are always looking for programs and this presentation would not only be generally informative, but could be used to develop interest and awareness of Judaica Librarianship. Further, synagogues interested in fostering their own libraries could use this as an introduction to the particular attributes of their own collections. Is anything like this available? Any thoughts?
