Hello, I would like to mention to the list the existence of one of an important Jewish Union Catalogue : the Rachel Network www.rachelnet.org
This is the common work of a group of French Jewish Libraries. It is the result of the mutual retro conversion of the paper catalogues of the participating libraries, with the help of the National Libraries of France and Israel. We use ExLibris ALEPH500, and the catalogue is fully multilingual (Hebrew, Latin, Arabic). Altogether, it contains more than 200 000 records (multimedia) from the following Libraries: - Alliance israélite Universelle - Maison de la culture Yiddish/Bibliothèque Medem (Yiddish culture) - Séminaire israélite de France (French rabbinical Seminary) - Médiathèque du Musée d'Art et d'histoire du judaïsme (Jewish Art and History Museum Library) - Centre français des musiques juives (French Center for Jewish Music). - AKADEM (videos of conferences on Jewish subjects) My colleague Guila Cooper, from the Alliance Library, will be present at the next AJL Convention in Pasadena. There are two smaller efforts right now, one is at the National Library of Israel with their ULI catalog which includes most Israeli libraries and several major Judaica libraries outside of Israel: http://libnet.ac.il/~libnet/uli/ The second is Avi Chai's school union catalog here: http://avichai.calypso.scoolaid.net/bin/home I think that Avi Chai's effort is probably the best example.
