I would be interested to see some discussion on this list about this new book, winner of the Sydney Taylor Award for Teen Readers. I read the novel and found it accessible, interesting and worthwhile, but the pivotal opening event is troubling, and how many teenagers will be able to push beyond the specifics of that scene and gain a meaningful overview? I've been asked to keep it in our library collection, but not to recommend it outright to our teens. Frankly, I fully understand the concern.
How do others feel? Hasafran is an insightful community! Help me come to peaceful terms with this book! Many thanks, Amy Turim Librarian, Temple Emanuel Kensington, MD
