There are already many catalog records "in the wild" that are compliant with
RDA: Resource Description and Access. Now is the perfect time for anyone
involved in cataloging and technical services to prepare and put plans in place
for implementing RDA. An active participant in development of the RDA
instructions, Magda El-Sherbini will lead this 4-week, asynchronous eCourse to
help you get started.

How this eCourse Works
The eCourse begins on April 1. Your participation will require approximately
four to five hours a week, at times that fit your schedule. There are no live
sessions. All activities take place on the website, and you will be expected to
* Read, listen to or view online content
* Post to online discussion boards
* Complete weekly assignments or activities
Instructor Magda El-Sherbini will monitor discussion boards regularly during
the four-week period, lead group discussions, and will also answer individual
questions. All interaction will take place on the eCourse site, which will be
available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's recommended that students log
into the site on April 1 or within a few days for an overview of the content
and to begin the first lesson.

User Requirements
Participants will need regular access to a computer with an internet connection
for online message boards participation, viewing online video, listening to
streaming audio (mp3 files), and downloading and viewing PDFs and PowerPoint
files. ALA Editions eCourses are fully compatible with Windows and MacOs.

About the Instructor
Magda El-Sherbini is Head of The Ohio State University Libraries' Cataloging
Department. In this capacity, she oversees the Department's cataloging
activities. She supervises the department's four cataloging units as well as
four faculty members and their respective staffs. In addition to her
administrative duties, El-Sherbini serves on numerous library committees and is
the author of numerous library publications. She served as a member of the ALA
RDA Advisory Board, which addresses issues related to the online publishing of
RDA, tests the product online, and provides feedback to the publisher.
