Friends, The following new book has just crossed my desk:

Tel Aviv: ha-Merkaz ha-universiṭaʼi Ariʼel be-Shomron. 248 p. : ill. ; 25 cm. [No ISBN; Danacode 158-55507.] English t.p.: From "Likute Shoshanim" to "The Paper Brigade": The Story of the Strashun Library in Vilna. The author is the director of the Ariel Central University Library. This book is based on her doctoral dissertation for Bar-Ilan University and she made use of archival resources in Vilnius and New York (YIVO) while researching the history of this important library, which was destroyed during the Nazi occupation. (Many of the Strashun Library's books were seized by the Nazis and were recovered and sent to YIVO in New York after World War II.) The book also includes an extensive bibliography. "Mi-Liḳuṭe shoshanim" ṿe-ʻad "Brigadat ha-neyar" includes biographical chapters about the library's founder, R. Matityahu Strashun (1817-1885), and its legendary librarian Khaykl Lunski (1881-1943).
