I am confused as to the proper way to assign call numbers to Biography's. I have been working in the library for a little over the year and I am learning on the job. I have noticed that some of the biography books are organized by subject and some by author. We use the Elazar classification system. Examples; The last seven months of Anne Frank by Willy Lindwer 799 FRA - subject The Life and Times of Abba Kovner by Dina Porat 799.76 POR - author
Which way is correct by subject or author? Does it matter if the book is a biography or an autobiography?
