Bernice, My synagogue is in a similar situation and we even have a set of encyclopedias that were published on 1906. I would have kept them on the shelf but the rabbi said take them off.
I have contacted local universities ( starting with those with Judaica departments) to offer them first . I believe I found a professor who will take them. Good luck.
