Dear Lauren,

In addition to all of the fine poets already mentioned, I would recommend the
poems of Yiddish poet Reyzl Zshikhlinski/רייזל זשיכלינסקי. Her work has been
translated into English and German. There are, of course, various spellings of
her name, but she is established in the LC/NACO Authority File as Zychlinsky,
R., ‡d 1910-2001.

See:

Zychlinsky, Rajzel. God Hid His Face. Santa Rosa, Calif. : Word & Quill
Press, c1997.

God hid his face / ‡c Rajzel Zychlinsky ; translated from the Yiddish by
Barnett Zumoff, Aaron Kramer, Marek Kanter, and others ; with an introductory
essay by Emanuel S. Goldsmith.

Best wishes,
Aaron T.

Subject: [ha-Safran] Jewish female poets on Holocaust

Dear Lauren and Safranim,

One female Jewish poet who has some Holocaust-related poetry is Rachel Korn.
She's also written some short stories. She is among the more highly regarded
Yiddish writers and everything I've read by her has been excellent. I'm
including a link WorldCat for her works in English translation.

And a link to a biographical entry from the Jewish Women's Archive:

Another excellent writer of mostly fiction and some poetry is Chava Rosenfarb,
many of whose works are available in English translation by her daughter Goldie
Morgenthaler.
Here is a link to her site:

Sincerely,

Amanda

Subject: [ha-Safran] Female Jewish Poets

Hi All - Received a request from a patron today asking for female Jewish
poets writing on the Holocaust. No specific timeframe in mind (i.e. doesn't
have to be contemporary) and the requester is open enough to accept short
story writers as well. Female only though.

Thanks in advance for the collective suggestions,

Lauren
