I also use OPALS and I love it, but as Dora Salm says, it is “too robust” for
the use this woman needs. Surpass costs money, and she does not have it to
spend. Library Ting does not have a circulation component, so that does not
fit the need.

I was thinking about Koha. Does anyone know anything about it?

I use OPALs as well. It may be more robust than what you are looking for; but
it's very user-friendly.

Hi Safranim,
I just received a very helpful email from Marsha Goldwasser, Librarian of Anshe
Emeth in New Brunswick, NJ. Her comments follow. (I've also updated the wiki
page on synagogue automation to reflect this new info. Please keep your
comments coming if you have any other programs to share.)

I am currently using two programs that are not on the wiki list. At work I use
Surpass. I actually use Surpass CL. The CL is the "Church Library" edition
designed for small houses of worship. It is cheaper than the full version, but
you can still purchase their online hosting service.
A great option for very small libraries who do not need to use an electronic
circulation system is LibraryThing.com. There is a small $25 fee to provide
"lifetime" usage of the website. I tweaked it for my home synagogue's library
so that I use the comments section for the Weine numbers as explained on the
"cover" page for the library. Circulation is small enough that we still use
cards and provide pre-printed family stickers for Shabbat circulation. If you
go herehttps://www.librarything.com/profile/HPCT-CAE, you will notice on the
right hand side that a lot of synagogues are using the site.

Dear Safranim,

Someone called me last night and asked me if I knew of a cataloging program for
a tiny (500? books) that was free, could print barcodes and help with
circulation.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
