Dear Liza : These news are so sad and I feel very bad for you. For all of us Judaica librarians also. That a strong and prosperous congregation as Temple Emanu-El would decide to, in essence, close its library is beyond depressing.
Recently I was talking about AJL supporting its smallest and weakest members thinking that the academic librarians and our colleagues in large congregations would be OK. I see that is not the case. We have to work harder to show how relevant all libraries are for the continued growth of the institutions they serve and the well-being of those members.
