James Madison University (JMU) Libraries and Educational Technologies is 
looking for a candidate to fill a temporary (Academic Year August 31, 2015 - 
May 6, 2016) part-time position (29 hours per week). Specific work days/hours 
are flexible and will be based on department needs. The successful candidate 
will serve as liaison the School of Art, Design and Art History and coordinate 
collection and research efforts with the School's Visual Resources Librarian. 
Liaison Librarians are responsible for collection development, outreach, 
instruction and research and consultation for the departments they serve. The 
successful candidate will also work with JMU Libraries' Special Collections 
unit and provide general reference support at the Ask-a-Librarian desk and 
virtually through the chat and email reference services.

James Madison University is a public, comprehensive university of approximately 
20,000 students located in the Shenandoah Valley two hours from Washington, 
D.C. The university has been ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the 
top-rated public regional master's level university for seventeen consecutive 
years. The university places a strong emphasis on undergraduate research and 
offers 40 master's degree programs and 8 doctoral programs.

JMU Libraries include Carrier Library with collections and services supporting 
the arts, humanities and social sciences; Rose Library, with collections and 
services supporting science, technology and health sciences; and the Music 
Library.

Salary is commensurate with experience. Review of applications will begin on 
August 7, 2015 and continue until the position is filled. This is a part-time 
position working an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar 
year with no benefits. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion 
of a criminal background investigation.

This position will serve as the subject specialist supporting the teaching and 
research endeavors of the School of Art, Design and Art History by providing 
research, reference and instructional services.

The successful candidate will assist with developing collections appropriate to 
the pedagogical and research needs of the university and will work closely with 
other liaison librarians and departmental faculty to understand and integrate 
research and curricular needs with the libraries' collections and services.

Partnering with other humanities-based librarians, this librarian will work to 
sustain relationships with JMU Special Collections as needed.

Part-time librarians may elect to engage in scholarly endeavors appropriate to 
the position and may also elect to participate in professional organizations or 
work in service to support the Libraries, JMU, or the library profession.

Required:
- Master's degree in Library Science or equivalent degree from an ALA 
accredited institution

Preferred:
- Undergraduate degree and/or advanced degree in a humanities-related discipline
- Demonstrated subject knowledge in humanities disciplines
- Academic library experience
