Rachel Kamin, Director The Joseph and Mae Gray Cultural & Learning Center North Suburban Synagogue Beth El 847/926-7902 or <blocked::mailto:[email protected]> [email protected] The Yizkor-Books-In-Print Project publishes translations of Memorial (Yizkor) Books of destroyed Jewish communities of Eastern Europe. This is a unique collection of literature that is newly available to the English-reading public. This collection is now being offered at 50% below Amazon prices to members of the Association of Jewish Libraries. The 46 available books are listed on the web site <http://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/ybip.html> http://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/ybip.html These are first-hand accounts of life in the towns before the war written by survivors, with descriptions of the institutions, the shuls, social organizations, charitable societies, Zionist and sports clubs, rabbis, town characters, and finally accounts of the Shoah. These Yizkor books serve a unique historical place, as they fill the gap between history books and family stories. The books were translated as part of the "Yizkor Books Project" of JewishGen.org, the on-line Jewish Genealogy organization. Of the more than 2000 such Yizkor books written, primarily in Yiddish and Hebrew, 700 are in various phases of translation and approximately 100 are fully translated and available on JewishGen.org. Of those, 46 books have been published in hardcover and are now being offered to members of the Association of Jewish Libraries at discounted prices. A typical 500 page book 11" by 8.5" hardcover costs about $20 in US, UK, AU and Canada; higher prices elsewhere due to shipping charges. For the specially reduced price list for Association of Jewish Libraries members, please contact: Joel Alpert, Coordinator of the Yizkor-Books-In-Print Project <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected]
