Public Services Librarian The Library of The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) is currently seeking a full-time Public Services Librarian. The position reports to the Director of Library Services. The position is available immediately.
About The Library of The Jewish Theological Seminary: The Library of The Jewish Theological Seminary holds the foremost collection of Judaica and Hebraica in the Western Hemisphere, including manuscripts, rare printed books, periodicals, ephemeral materials, musical scores, sound recordings, moving images, graphic arts, and archives. It provides access to subscription databases and to its digital collections. The JTS Library serves the students and faculty of the institution in addition to the international community of scholars in Jewish studies and related areas. Position Summary: Provides reference and other library services in Jewish studies to library users, including reference, interlibrary loan, off-site retrieval, circulation and stack maintenance. Builds Judaica collection of print and electronic resources. Duties and responsibilities: * Respond to on-site, phone, e-mail and snail mail reference requests to students, faculty and the general public. * Supports users needs in special areas of the Library such as access to electronic resources and microfilm collection. * Build a Jewish studies research collection, with a specialization in rabbinic literature, in support of the academic and teaching program at JTS. * Process interlibrary requests from local and remote users. * Design and implement information literacy program, including collection guides, to support the academic program. * Maintain on-site open stacks and work with off-site storage facility vendor for retrieval of materials. * Supervise work-study students. Requirements: * Demonstrated ability to provide reference services and other public services for library users. * Proficiency in Hebrew and other Jewish languages, in Jewish Studies including rabbinic literature, and expertise in reference materials in print and electronic formats. * Knowledge of Yiddish and other European languages is desired. * Experience with the ExLibris product suite (ALEPH500, Primo, SFX). * Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills and ability to work in a team environment. * Ability to work flexible shifts and collaboratively with the general public and the public services staff. Educational Requirements: ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS is required. Advanced degree and/or proficiency in Jewish studies including rabbinic literature preferred. Excellent Hebrew. Other European languages are desired.
