Hi Amy,

Here's the article:
http://mosaicmagazine.com/observation/2016/11/why-are-jewish-childrens-books-so-bad/
I agree with Weingrad's assessment of Shmelf but I totally DISAGREE with the
rest of his article. Be sure to also read Heidi Rabinowitz's response to the
article citing over 120 titles that prove how very wrong he is:

Subject: [ha-Safran] searching for an article

Sometime over the last month or two I saw an article online about the poor
quality of Jewish children's books. The piece opened with the low-hanging
fruit, blasting SHMELF THE HANUKKAH ELF. A google search indicates criticisms
from a variety of publishers and reviewers on that title, but the article was
about a broader trend.
I'd like to re-read it and discuss the piece with some friends but I'm unable
to find it.
Can anyone direct me to its source?
Many thanks,
Amy Turim
