Shalom Safranim,

Renowned philatelist and lecturer, Justin Gordon, has just published a
unique and important book describing the postal services during the
holocaust. entitled, *Holocaust Postal History: Harrowing Journeys Revealed
through the Letters and Cards of the Victims.* Gordon has photographed
(from his vast stamp collection) postcards and envelopes with the Nazi
postal cancellation stamps and hand written notations from official Nazi
censors., He has exhaustively researched the fate of each letter and
postcard recipient and has included their story and their fate along with
the letter that was written to them. Each postcard and letter with its
marking is translated. The book includes an index and an extensive
bibliography. Most interesting and informative for anyone who collects
stamps is the glossary of stamps which includes a photograph of each
stamp, the date it was issued and information about the scene or picture on
the stamp. For example a Belgium stamp issued February 5, 1936 depicts the
Belgian coat of arms. There are many stamps with Hitler's portrait as well
as Hindenberg, Fredrick the Great and Marshal Petain's picture. Gordon's
book is beautiful.. The format is oversize. The pages are heavy and
glossy and the font is clear and easy to read. *Holocaust Postal History* is
a must have for all reference collections especially in school libraries.
The book contains fascinating information that is unique and has not been
published before.
