Shalom, Shmuel, Anne forwarded your message to me. I actually know next to nothing about economic history - as an ethnomusicologist and historical ethnomusicologist, I have worked extensively for many years (decades, actually!) on the role of music among Sephardim and among Crypto-Jews in Portugal and Spain. This of course does require some historical research but your question is beyond my knowledge range. I would be happy to write to colleagues on the Espora listserv if the professor in question isn't a member of it. Members of that list have a wide range of specialties related to medieval and Early Modern Iberia, and I'm quite sure at least one of them will either be able to answer the question or suggest someone who can respond to it. all the best, Judith Dr Judith Cohen www.judithcohen.ca
