*Subject:* Old Hebrew manuscript scam - do not open attachments

Greetings,

Several colleagues in the Library received an email today asking for
assistance translating a Hebrew manuscript. This is spam – do not open any
of the attachments.

The writer states that it is written in Ancient Hebrew (used Before the
Common Era) and dated from the Ottoman Period (1400-1900), which of course
does not make sense and raises suspicions. Last month the Jerusalem Post
published an article on the “flourishing industry of Jewish manuscript
forgeries” that “supposedly once belonged to Jewish communities in Islamic
lands,” (see https://www.jpost.com/printarticle.aspx?id=579435 ). The email
received today is from the United Arab Emirates.

Best regards,

Diane
