AJL-NYMA would like to express its sadness and heartfelt condolences on the loss of Leah Adler, Head Librarian of Hebraica-Judaica at the Mendel Gottesman Library at Yeshiva University and long-time member of AJL-NYMA.
Leah served on the AJL-NYMA board and coordinated an AJL-NYMA reference workshop on resources on the Arab-Israeli conflict. In addition, Leah was actively involved with AJL on a national level: She served as General Treasurer, as Recording Secretary of the Research and Special Libraries Division of AJL (1988-1990), as chair of the AJL Cataloging Committee (1987-1988), and as treasurer for a New York AJL conference. Moreover, she served as an indexer for Judaica Librarianship, the peer-reviewed journal of the Association of Jewish Libraries. She presented at conferences of the Association of Jewish Libraries on a broad range of topics related to Hebraica and Judaica librarianship, including "Moving to a Unicode Based Library System: The Yeshiva University Library Experience" and "Yeshiva University Implements the VTLS VIRTUA Integrated Library System." Leah was brilliant: A gifted librarian with expertise in Jewish Literature, classical and European languages, and technology. She was a warm, supportive person-always kind. Her absence will be deeply felt.
