Heidi did a great job arguing for the multi-cultural content of Jewish
literature. She also did a great job of highlighting the AJL, the AJL website
and its resources, other Jewish resources, as well as her own blog.

I totally agree with you, Emily, and really appreciate all the effort that you
put into getting Heidi, and thus AJL, onto the ALA Ethnic and Multicultural
Information Exchange Round Table session, “EMIERT Chair’s Program Promoting
Multicultural Library Services in Virtual Spaces,” which took place this
morning at ALA Virtual.

All three participants, Heidi; K.C. Boyd, Library Media Specialist at Jefferson
Academy in the Washington, DC Public School system; and Andrea Jamison,
Librarian and Lecturer at Valparaiso University (Indiana) and
Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect of EMIERT, articulated their jobs, patron base,
collections, charges, and challenges really well. While representing “just”
two ethnic communities (on the surface), Jewish and African-American, they
demonstrated the diversity and multiculturalism of both and how meaningful
their work and the resources that they highlighted are. What they do is
beneficial to all of their users, internal and external. Andrea, while serving
as the moderator, contributed much to the discussion, not only with her
questions but contributions to the conversation. A really good session.

And Heidi proved once again why she is not only a Jewish kidlit meyven, but so
knowledgeable way beyond her “bailiwick!”

Great job! Yasher-koyekh and kol ha-kavod on your fabulous presentation,
Heidi, and Emily for making sure it happened!

See you all next week!

Elliot

I just watched Heidi present with K.C. Boyd at the EMIERT Chair's Program
Promoting Multicultural Library Services in Virtual Spaces at the ALA digital
conference. It was a great presentation, and the comments in the Q&A space
were very positive. EMIERT is planning to make the presentation available on
their website, so I will send the link so everyone can see it.

How did this happen? I pushed to be on the EMIERT Program Committee. The
Chair's Program was already set and was to be a very theoretical program about
ethnic materials. When everything changed, the in-person program wouldn't work
online, and the committee had to come up with a new program quickly, I
suggested Heidi to join a DC school librarian to talk about this topic, and we
are so lucky she agreed.

I can't tell you how happy I am with how the program turned out. It really
brought out the diversity of materials to have speakers from such different
backgrounds.

Thank you, Heidi, for stepping up and preparing for this program on short
notice that will reach a broad audience. You are a superstar.

Emily
