Let me parenthesise and rename (n + 1) +++ 1 = n This defines a function +++, first argument is a n+1 pattern, second argument is 1.
In the same way, (+) + 1 + 1 = (+) defines a function +, first argument is n+1 (but using (+) as n), second argument is 1.
