Such a symbol already exists, but isn't in the ASCII set:
(-) (unicode 0x2D) "hyphen minus"
and
(‐) (unicode 0x2010) "hyphen"
are not the same as
(−) (unicode 0x2200) "minus sign"
notably also, not the same as ‒, –, — and ― (figure dash, en-
dash, em-dash and horizontal bar).
