                 Architectural Trends for

***********************************************************

Integrated Computer-Aided Engineering has planned a special
issue on Architectural Trends for Image Processing and
Machine Vision. The field of image processing and machine
vision, already well known as a challenging area for
advanced computer applications, recently received a new
impulse due to the following reasons:
* multimedia applications and their requirements in terms
  of image acquisition, storing, transmission and
  reconstruction;
* maturity of novel approaches to image treatment, like
  neural networks and fuzzy logic;
* availability of easily programmable hardware devices
  (e.g., Field Programmable Gate Arrays) large enough to
  accommodate the most time demanding image processing and
  machine vision algorithms;
* availability of cost-effective parallel and distributed
  architectures, suitable for the high level image
  processing tasks (too complex to be solved by dedicated
  architectures).

Prospective authors are invited to submit manuscripts based
on their recent results; the main focus of the Journal -
namely: integration of new and emerging computing
technologies for innovative solutions of engineering
problems - should be emphasized by addressing, from
different perspectives, topics like hardware development
methodologies and tools, new technologies for prototyping
and producing dedicated architectures, advances in
algorithms, matching of algorithms to processing
architectures, new processing paradigms.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been previously
published elsewhere, or being currently under consideration
elsewhere. All manuscripts should include a cover page
containing: title of the paper, full name(s) and
affiliation(s) of the author(s), complete surface and
electronic address(es), telephone and fax numbers.
The corresponding author should be clearly identified on
the first page. The manuscript should include a 300-word
abstract and a list of keywords characterizing the paper
contents.
