The problem is the Microsoft monopoly. Even if MS introduces severe design
flaws, they will become standard. Look at their network protocols.
Smaller companies can't do that.

This is one of the reasons why Haskell isn't used widely in commercial
applications. One has to trust the compiler that it optimizes
sufficiently. In C it is to a large extent the programmers
responsibility to optimize.  'Boss, we need a different haskell compiler to
make this module run faster.'
