I do not see any obstacle for all this. 
Only to spend effort, to program good algorithms.
There are a couple of members in the Haskell mail list, who adverticed
the programs for processing of continuous fractions. The pointer to
applications in the  www.haskell.org  page may reveal these programs 
(?).
Maybe, setting the precision in these programs one gets the effect of 
"numeric" program?
