Oh I think I do. See C, see C++. You're the wizzard of all OSes if you
can speak that languages fluently. You get the feeling of beeing
allmight (till the  next memory leak, or dangling pointer) and all the
like. 

It' like knowing some sort of magic. If black of white should everyone
decide by him/herself.

Some other points are:
1) regular expressions
2) speed
3) no language besides C is more a Unix Hacker Tool as Perl is
4) a lot of useful modules 
5) you can do anything with it, and you'll get it up and running
6) Perls integration into Unix. I do not know any other langauge (maybe
Ruby) which makes it so easy to write one liners

So that is my understanding, you allow me to feel in different ways. And
if I would have the choice just between awk and Perl I would use Perl.
But because I have other options I can use whatever I  like and feel
happy. And so do the Perl lovers. Isn't that wonderful?
