You left something out. CPAN gets updated a lot. And every time you use it, it checks whether it has been updated. If it has detected this, it tries to lure you into upgrading to it, promising the upgrade will be "seamless". Don't believe that lie. Most of the times, such an upgrade will mean it forces you throught the manual configuration process again. I've stopped upgrading my CPAN.pm for a long time for no other reason that this. Abigail
