Oh, that's easy: stable releases are done on even days, while
development releases are done on odd days =)

Surely if nothing else, the existence of this list would indicate that they're all unstable branches.

The only distinction that matters is whether it's actively maintained dreck or abandoned dreck, and the YYYYMMDD scheme would answer that question implicitly.
