Apple never fails to impress me with their contempt for users of those Apple products which Apple would prefer to imagine never existed.

Just for fun I thought I'd plug my new iPod into an OS 9 box to see what happened. I was expecting this to be (and would have been satisfied with) one of the following:

(a) The iPod filesystem mounts on the desktop. A lot to hope for, but certainly within the realm of the conceivable.
(b) An error alert telling me to install or upgrade a driver.
(c) An error alert telling me to install or upgrade a driver, which is no longer available from Apple. (d) An error alert telling me that this iPod is only supported on OS X, and would I please stop fooling around with OS 9 already -- it's *so* nineties.
(e) Nothing at all.

Unfortunately, what actually happened wasn't so benign as any of those. Instead, the OS promptly wedged itself, forcing a system reset.

And people wonder why I don't believe in Apple.
