Let's see, have we had one about horrible home-brewed defect tracking

You'll be here all YEAR.

I just want one - home-brewed or commercial, I don't care which - that
has a useful amount of flexibility (no, we DO need custom fields, Mr
Spolsky) and doesn't have users screaming in agony within a month.
ONE.

Off the top of my head, I can think of five open source trackers:

* RT
* BugZilla
* Debian BTS
* sourceforge.net issue tracker (officially deprecated)
* trac

Which one is the obviously superior replacement?

Also, anyone heard of Distributed Defect Tracking System (DDTS)?
