I disagree. How does the Thrift connector and the REST connector differ architecturally? They are both separate daemons. They both are clients to the HBase cluster but serve other clients through a mediating interface. The only difference is we made REST into a contrib because at the time the goal was to move both connectors out to contrib. Thrift was going to get that treatment but it was deferred.
As far as I can see the only argument here is that REST is somehow second class to Thrift. - Andy ----- Original Message ---- > From: Kay Kay <kaykay.uni...@gmail.com> > To: hbase-dev@hadoop.apache.org > Sent: Sun, January 31, 2010 3:27:42 PM > Subject: Re: Discussion: Move contribs out of hbase? > > +1 on thrift interface + EC2 scripts in the core, as they will be very > useful to bootstrap hbase. > > Being another independent app service provider by itself - not sure if > REST connectors can be categorized as a core functionality to the > architecture. > > > > > On 01/30/2010 08:23 PM, Ryan Rawson wrote: > > We use and need thrift.
