A few of the hbase committers have been around a good while now -- years in some cases -- with mountains of patches under their belt but the notion that these fellas be promoted to the hadoop PMC has never come up. I'm now thinking that this state may have been my fault. I saw a barrier, perhaps where there was none, between Hadoop PMC and subprojects. My thought was that an HBase committer would be a hard-sell as an Hadoop PMC member unless the HBase committer first made significant contribution to hadoop in areas other than HBase.
