Overall pretty good. I'm not super familiar with these interfaces and found the 
doc useful.

Something that's not clear in the doc is how write failures are handled. For 
example, are output written to a staging directory, then moved into place? Can 
a worker task that crashes during writes restart and rewrite the data without 
getting duplicates? Is there a "commit" or "close" type operation to signal all 
writers have completed writing?
