Inside Yahoo it is in beta testing. We plan to have it in production
by this summer. I am not aware of anyone else using it in production
at this point. It is still very early in the production cycle and
probably not ready for production yet.

No, our goal is not to change the database used to store metadata.
It is to open up that metastore to use by Pig and MapReduce users,

Howl has been renamed to HCatalog (due to naming conflicts with an
existing ow2 project called Howl).
