Hi Nina, I believe the answer to your question is in Glasser et al. 2013<http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1053811913005053> in the HCP pipelines: fMRIVolume section. If I'm reading it correctly, the brain mask is the final brain mask from the PostFreeSurfer pipeline for that subject.
