I don't think you are going to have a decent speed-up by just copying to 
/dev/shm because your 30 GB file probably was probably completely in your OS 
filesystem cache already, which is memory too.  Having said this, in case you 
get some noticeable speed-up please tell us: I like to hear how wrong I am ;-)
