Thanks Xiao, I've reverted from trunk and branch-3.0 too.
It'd be great if you dig into it a little more. I'd still be okay with a sleep
in the end, if it comes to that, but I've had luck in the past by holding a
lock that pauses everything after initialization, doing the mocking, then
releasing the lock.
